Horrifically Advanced Required Examinations (abbreviated H.A.R.E.s, pronounced Hares) are subject specific exams that seventh year students at Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry take prior to graduation. These exams, more than even E.A.G.L.E.s, are taken to demonstrate skill and knowledge in a particular subject for potential employers.

Employers, particularly in the Magical Congress of the United States of America, often consider or toss out applicants based on their H.A.R.E.s scores alone.

H.A.R.E.s are the highest level examinations offered by Ilvermorny School. They are comparable, in a sense, to N.E.W.T.s at Hogwarts, and to the GRE in the No-Maj world. As a result, they are extremely difficult, hence the title "horrifically advanced." Unlike at Hogwarts, where students may choose to take their advanced tests/classes, H.A.R.E.s are required for all seventh year students at Ilvermorny, and are taken in the second week of May, just before the end of term.

H.A.R.E.-level classes

H.A.R.E.-level classes may be enrolled in by a student if they have achieved an E.A.G.L.E. in the subject. Additionally, each teacher has their own set of prerequisites for admitting students to their H.A.R.E.-level class, such as a particularly grade on their E.A.G.L.E.
